Pam's Intercessions for Palm Sunday, 13th April 2025

Intercessions 13.4.25 Palm Sunday

Be with us Heavenly Father as we pray together in faith on this special day.
We give you our thanks, for all we have which you have given us: our homes, people we know and love, sunlight, the beauty of the earth, our food and drink. We thank you for kindnesses shown, times of joy, and love for one another.
Lord in your mercy

As we hear in the Bible of the Roman occupation of the Holy Land, we pray for our world at war, asking for calm, for the ending of hostility in so many parts of the world, for peace between nations. We ask for world leaders who can work with one another instead of seemingly enjoying endless hostility. Bring healing in places of long-held violence……
Today we pray for Sudan, where there is escalating violence and the prospect of famine in refugee camps. Bring lives devoted to an end of war and hate. We pray for organisations who work in life-threatening places, for United Nations peace-keepers, the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontiers. We pray against slavery and human trafficking, praying for the victims and for the safety those who work against it.

We pray for fellow Christians all over the world, coming together in faith to remember your Son’s final week of life on earth. We thank you for the ties which bind us to our sister churches, the palms which wave today all over the world. We pray for our church here in Cornwall, for the difficulties it faces and ask that you will guide our administrative leaders to promote the appointment of priests in parishes. We ask your blessing on our new Bishop, David and his family, praying that with your help and guidance he can heal the divisions in this diocese. We pray for our own clergy, for all they do for us, remembering especially those who work for us without a stipend: Linda, Pat, Brian and Greg. We pray for Caroline as she works with all her churches. Bless them in their work Lord, keep them strong and walk beside them in all they do. We ask your blessing on all our special services in the week ahead – the commemoration of the Last Supper and meditations on the Cross.

We offer prayers for our local communities, for societies and clubs and all who raise funds for charity. We pray for all who serve us so well: Cornwall Hospices, our Air Ambulances, the Merlin Centre, and quiet local groups who endlessly raise funds for good causes. Keep us always mindful of the needs of those around us.

As we hear of Christ’s suffering this week, knowing that He bore so much alone, we pray for all who are ill or suffering in any way, whether in bodily pain or mental anguish. Be with them Lord, comfort them with your presence and heal them. We ask your blessing on all who work to relieve suffering of any kind, remembering those who work with the suicidal. In a moment’s silence, we pray especially for bereaved Sophie, Frank and Oliver in their loss, for Denise caring for her dying father in Romania and for Ted who has travelled there to support her, for Barbara Holt and for Jeremy Newton.

Knowing that Christ’s resurrection is ahead of Him, we pray for all who have died recently, praying that they are now at rest with you, bathed in eternal light and peace. In a moment of quiet, we pray for the soul of Neil, that his suffering has ended.
May they rest in peace and rise in glory

Heavenly Father, in faith we know that today begins a week like no other, beginning with the waving of palms and a triumphal journey but ending in pain and death. Guide us through this week of sadness, keeping Christ in our hearts to the great and glorious mystery which is to come, the celebration of life which is Easter.
Merciful Father
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ
Amen
