Intercessions for Trinity 11, Sunday 16th August 2026
We make ourselves comfortable and prepare our minds to talk to God in our prayers.
O Lord my God, when I, in awesome wonder, consider all the works they hand has made, thy power throughout the universe displayed – then sings my soul – How great thou art.
Heavenly Father, we cannot but be overwhelmed when we open our eyes to your creation. We are humbled by our insignificance and we remember that our food supply relies on the work of tiny, untameable insects. Our crops cannot grow unless we have rain. We cannot survive unless we have water. We are horrified at the threat of wild fires.
Father, in all humility we pray that it may rain soon. We pray for our firemen as they fight the fires.
For our farmers as they battle against drought and new diseases in their flocks. For our water
boards – that they will regard their responsibilities and safeguard our supplies. For all who have lost
their homes in fires and those in have died in them in other counties.
And we pray for the long-term future of our planet – that we learn to care for our habitat and
determine to pass on healthy provision for coming generations.
Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer
In this wonderful old church building we pray for the church family world-wide. For our King, as the
head of the Church of England, for Bishops and for all our priests and all who keep our parish
churches in good order, and our doors open. We pray for Caroline, Pat and Brian and their families.
We continue to pray most earnestly for Linda and her family.
Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer.
Our readings today have reflected on families – Joseph and his brothers; the Canaanite woman and
her daughter; the set Psalm begins: “How good and pleasant it is when a family lives together in
unity.” We thank you, Lord for our own families. We pray for our community and all the families in
our parish – remembering that not all families do live in unity. Father, bless and comfort all who do
not know the love and warmth of good relationships and safe homes.
We pray for our young people who have had their important exam results this past week and ask
that they will make the best decisions for their future lives.
Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer.
God the three in one, we love the stories in the Gospels of the many people who Jesus healed. We
pray for your mercy and healing comfort for all in our communities who are unwell in mind, body or
spirit. There are members of our church who we rarely see because of their frailties due to old age
or ill health. May they know your loving presence and be aware that they are still part of our family
and that we value them and miss them.
We take a few silent moments to name in our hearts, all those know who are particularly in need of
your special care right now.
Lord, in your mercy Hear our prayer.
Father we pray for your loving mercy for all who mourn and all who have died in the past week –
some peacefully, with those they love, some lonely and alone and some violently or suddenly,
unprepared. Father look upon them take them home. And we pray for all whose year’s mind fall at
this time.
May they rest in peace and rise in glory.
Heavenly Father, we have so much to be thankful for. May we learn from the heatwaves just how
many blessings we enjoy – may we learn to value what really matters –and make the most of the
blue skies and sunshine while we have them, trusting that we will be back to our familiar soggy
green landscapes before too long.
Merciful Father: Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen
