Upper Fal Parishes

Weekly Bulletin w/c 18th August 2025

Ow sos ger, (My dear friends in Cornish)
You may have noticed that I am beginning to learn just a few words of Cornish, I am hoping to improve my repertoire over the coming weeks and months. I intend to learn the Lords’ Prayer in Cornish which I hope you will want to join with me in saying at church during services.

I have been reading up on a little bit of history of some of our churches, and noticed that a previous rector of Probus once stood his ground and refused to introduce the BCP services as they were all in English, his understanding was that this would lead to the demise of the Cornish people, their language and their culture. He was executed for this display of independence.

The Cornish people are of course, resilient. However, with Cornish being a language spoken by a small minority, with the advent of schooling and lessons taught in English, the language all but died out. Over the past 100 years or so there has been a resurgence in interest and passion for the Cornish language. As we live in Cornwall and worship in Cornwall I think it is right to understand something of the ways and language of the people.

I would do the same if I were to move to Spain or Turkey. I hope you will want to join with me in this small token of appreciation as villagers here welcome me and accept me to come and live here as one, together.

Gras and kres,
Caroline

Message from St Erme re parking
...there is what is best described as limited parking for cars, both in the roads and outside the church. We try and ensure that a private road next to the church is kept open for the residents.
We try and get as many vehicles up the drive to the church, especially those who are disabled but it could be tight. Could we ask people to share cars if possible?

Generosity and Stewardship Matters

Financially Supporting your church

The Parish Giving Scheme is our preferred method of receiving regular giving within the churches of Probus, Ladock and Grampound. If you haven't already transferred from other forms of giving then do check out how it works through the link here or by contacting your treasurer.

Please do consider whether this is a good time to review your regular giving at the church, or perhaps you would like to plan for a future donation and leave a gift in your will.  The Church of England has produced guidance on legacy giving  which you can find here
