Weekly Benefice Bulletin

Sunday 11th October 2026

Message from the Rector

Ow sos ger,

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 NIV

This week there are a few things I'd like to highlight to you:

HARVEST

It is definitely harvest season with each of our church schools enjoying family services either at church or in school. I have attached a photo from Ladock of one of their displays.

In our churches we are enjoying various harvest treats in terms of lunches, suppers etc as well as taking a generous collection of items for the Food Bank. It is very special whenever we as a church community can come together and eat together - we share so much more than just food,as we share in stories and take time to listen to one another. Thank you for all your generosity of time, food items, display items and contributions to meals.

VISION DAY

This Saturday - please do come, 10am - 2pm, Tresillian VILLAGE HALL

Do bring a plate of food that can be shared buffet style with others, and perhaps a cardi/layer. Sometimes we get chilly when we are sat for a period of time.

We will be asking the question: Why is church important?

We’d like to collate answers from the following:

people inside the church
people on the fringe of the church
people outside the church

Please bring the answers on the day.

ECO CHURCH

Congratulations to Holy Trinity, Tresillian who were awarded their Bronze Award at a special service on Saturday. Claire and I enjoyed a very special service with Bishop David at St Illogan's where we heard from the 'Speak up' team from across our C of E primary schools. Hearing the cares and concerns of our youngest members is vital if we are not to perpetuate the problems caused by our incessant need for greed, right or power. I have included a photo of Claire and myself with Bishop David.

PROBUS CHURCH GOES GREEN

You may notice that on Friday 9th October between 7pm and 9pm that the church has turned green -not with envy nor on a super charged eco event but in solidarity with those who experience some of the vaguries of life. In this case we are raising awareness for those living with PANS or PANDAS. More will follow in the parish magazine. We know that complications can arise for individuals recovering from illness, but sometimes these complications have extreme effects that must be understood and navigated. Often, we only raise our level of understanding and offer support to families or individuals once we know someone personally. Today we offer our love and prayers to those living with PANS/PANDAS.

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Gal 6:9 NIV

grasha kres,

Caroline

Benefice notices

Upper Fal Parishes Vision Day

The Upper Fal Parishes Vision Day, on Saturday 10th October, 10.00am to 2.00pm, at Tresillian Village Hall, is a chance for our churches to listen together for how God is leading us as we work together becoming beacons of love and light across our parishes.

During the day we would like to discuss the question: why is church important?

We would love for you to bring ideas from:

people inside the church
people on the fringe of the church
people outside the church

and to bring the answers on the day!

Can I also ask you to read the passage from Matthew 22: 1-14, please would you read this passage through a few times, and I would suggest a 'slow' read, paying attention to any words or phrases that seem to jump out or resonate with you which can then be used during your prayer time.

I am looking forward to seeing you as we come together to listen and to hear form one another and from God.

gras ha kres,

Caroline

News from Mothers’ Union

Mothers' Union has branches across Cornwall, and the events at Truro Cathedral below are open to everyone - members, friends and guests. Thank you.

Blasts from the Past - Mothers' Union, Truro Cathedral, Thursday 15th October 2pm, Chapter House

Mothers' Union nurtures faith and friendship - and one way of doing this is through our favourite songs!

October's meeting at Truro Cathedral is an opportunity to re-live happy times from our schooldays. If you remember a cracking song from Assembly, please send your suggestion, and why you chose it, to Beverlyhulme@trurocathedral.org.uk As many songs as possible will then be selected for a singalong (with piano accompaniment) in the Chapter House.

As usual, there is no charge, guest attendees are welcome and refreshments will be served. Unlike at school, singing is not compulsory!

Dates for the diary

Diocesan Mothers' Union Meeting - 19 November 10.00 - 16.00, Truro Cathedral. Morning - Eucharist and Speaker (Julia Jameson, Zonal Trustee, Mothers' Union); Afternoon - AGM. Please bring packed lunch. Tea & coffee available all day, plus fair trade stall. All welcome.
November 25 - December 10 - the UN's '16 Days of Activism' campaign against gender-based violence is supported by Mothers' Union. Our theme is 'Together for Dignity and Safety'. Further details to follow.
Thursday 10 December - annual Mothers' Union Advent Carol Service, Truro Cathedral (time tbc)

Finally, Mothers' Union is celebrating 150 years this year, and your prayers would be very much appreciated for its worldwide gathering is being held in Durban, South Africa from 30 Sept - 3 Oct. Diocese of Truro Mothers' Union is being represented by our Diocesan President, Kerstin Lewis. Enquiries about Mothers' Union and its work in the Diocese can be sent to her at mu.truro.dp@gmail.com

Safeguarding in our Benefice

We want our churches to be places where everyone feels welcome, valued and safe. Safeguarding is something we all have a part in and we are committed to looking after one another, especially children, young people and adults who may be vulnerable.

We have Parish Safeguarding Officer in each of our parishes who works alongside our clergy and PCC to support good safeguarding practice and those who work with children and adults are appropriately recruited, trained and supported.

Most importantly, we want people to feel able to speak up if they are worried about something or someone. We will listen and take concerns seriously and will make sure they are dealt with appropriately. If you have a concern, however small, please speak to your Safeguarding Officer, clergy or churchwarden. By listening, caring and looking out for one another, we can all help make our churches safe and welcoming places for everyone.

Generosity and Stewardship Matters

Financially Supporting your church

The Parish Giving Scheme is our preferred method of receiving regular giving within the churches of Probus, Ladock and Grampound. If you haven't already transferred from other forms of giving then do check out how it works through the link here or by contacting your treasurer.

Please do consider whether this is a good time to review your regular giving at the church, or perhaps you would like to plan for a future donation and leave a gift in your will. The Church of England has produced guidance on legacy giving which you can find here

Newsletter Submissions

Please send your items by 5pm on Tuesday 13th October at the latest to Matthew at bulletin@probus.church and make sure the subject line clearly indicates that it is a newsletter submission.
Thank you.
