Weekly Bulletin w/c 13th October 2025

Ow sos ger,
Agan Tas ni Usi ynnev    Our Father in Heaven
Benygys re bo dha hanow, hallowed be thy name
Re dheffo dhawlaskor Thy kingdom come (NB ‘dh’ makes a ‘th’ sound)
During a recent service at one of our churches we were graced with the presence of a visitor. At the end of the service I was given a prophetic word Jeremiah 6:16:
‘ This is what the Lord says:
“Stand at the crossroads and look;
 ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.”’
We have been traversing through the book of Jeremiah over the summer, and it is true to say that there are some remarkable texts within it. Jeremiah was a prophet who was beside himself with anger because of how the people were behaving, and that what the priests did was contrary to the way that he thought things should be done. He demonstrated this by giving everyone a really hard time. And was dutifully known as the angry prophet. Jeremiah was struggling with the way life was or had changed, he was worried that the people were moving away from God, he couldn’t distinguish between the comfort and security of his own religious experiences as a child and the needs of the children of his present day. He hadn’t understood that the children of the day were growing up in a very different landscape to the one that he had grown up in. God though, could see Jeremiah's heart and knew that Jeremiah was wanting to honour and worship God in the ways he had been taught.
And so Jeremiah received messages, prophecies that would be shared with generations to come to help us learn the same lessons that Jeremiah learnt. Chapter 6v16 is one such lesson. I was given this as a prophecy, a word of encouragement. The person who gave this to me had no idea that I have been wrestling with this for a few years now, it was in part that led to my interest in Celtic Spirituality. As I looked to the example of the Desert Fathers and Mothers I discovered that the Celtic Christians in Briton were also inspired by these faithful followers of Christ who had actually left the Church and sought a life of simplicity, solitude and service as they practiced their spiritual disciplines in community together. These spiritual practices seem to me to be part of the ancient paths that lead to the good way and soon rest for our souls.
It is true to say that the world is continuously changing. King Canute discovered that even he could not stop the tide from coming in! (To be fair to King Canute -that was his point! He knewthat he was but  a man and not Divine.)
Sometimes change can be overwhelming, everyone, everything is constantly changing and we sometimes desperately want to try and control everything within our grasp, but when we do this it leads to anguish, and meanness -see the angry prophet, instead we are encouraged to seek the ancient way, to practice our spiritual disciplines that will draw us closer to God and develop our heart to be more like His. I am not saying that when we are stirred to anger because of  in justice we should do nothing, what I am saying is that we need to look to Christ to inspire and lead us, to allow his love for people to penetrate our hearts so that with Paul we can say “it is no longer I who lives but Christ in me” (Gal2:20).

Caroline

Ss Probus and Grace Church
I am currently looking to set up a small team of people who would be willing to open and close the church each day of the week. In the past Steve as Church warden has overseen this, however, now that he has retired from this position we need to think again about how we can manage to keep the church open. The church is widely used by everyone in the community for personal prayer, community group sessions, as well as toddler group, community larder and other things from time to time.

Responsibilities of the role would include
Opening up: unlocking the door, and turning on a couple of lights inside.
Locking up: ensuring that no one is inside, the toilet is locked, lights are off and doors are locked.
It would be helpful to have a small team of people who would be willing either to take a day each, or a regular day...and that you might be willing to cover each other for sickness or holidays.
Please contact me asap if you can help,
Caroline

Other events

One minute they need you, the next you’re the most embarrassing person alive!

This stage of their development is full of change, so Tweens and Teens has been designed to offer hope and help to mums, dads and carers, through the turbulence of the tween years and beyond.

On top of the raging hormones and mood swings, our children are pulling away and becoming their own person. So, how can we give them the freedom to grow without letting them wander into chaos?

At this event, we’ll explore principles that will equip you to come alongside your child as they try and establish their identity, assert their independence and find their place in the world.

You’ll come away with…

  • A better understanding of what’s going on in their brains
  • Practical ways to stay connected with your child whilst letting them go
  • Strategies to keep your child safe, both in the real world and online
  • Ways to help your child establish their identity and develop independence
  • Increased confidence in how you, and your child, can thrive during this crucial stage in their development
  • Bonus content to watch at home to help you with even more specific issues

Generosity and Stewardship Matters

Financially Supporting your church

The Parish Giving Scheme is our preferred method of receiving regular giving within the churches of Probus, Ladock and Grampound. If you haven't already transferred from other forms of giving then do check out how it works through the link here or by contacting your treasurer.

Please do consider whether this is a good time to review your regular giving at the church, or perhaps you would like to plan for a future donation and leave a gift in your will.  The Church of England has produced guidance on legacy giving  which you can find here
