Message from the Rector
Ow sos ger,
Christmas season is fast approaching but just before we begin all that, I want to share with you the tremendous blessings that have been experienced across the Upper Fal Parishes. This week either on Sunday 9th or Tuesday 11th there have been Remembrance services held in each of the parishes. You may have driven past Holy Trinity, Tresillian and seen their magnificent display of poppies cascading down from the bells. I know that it has been noticed by Radio Cornwall, the Diocese and many other passersby. This is the result of a great community coming together in a common act of service, thankfulness, and love. It is good for us to remember. It is a biblical discipline to recall the big events in our lives and the generations before us and to lift these before God who will stir our hearts into Christlikeness and begin or continue those salvific works in each of us.
Linda, myself and the Open the Book teams are continuing to visit the schools (those that have agreed to this) regularly, we have also held a lovely creation and harvest workshop for St Erme Parish school. Each school was visited for Harvest celebrations -a rich Cornish tradition. We hope to build on this work and develop a school’s team who will help plan and organise ‘experience’ and ‘Creation’ days/workshops thus enriching the children’s understanding of Christianity as well as giving them good experiences of prayer and worship within a different context (please get in touch with me, Caroline, if you would like to know more about this).
I have had a few conversations with the Treasurers across the Upper Fal Parishes, who wanted to remind me that we need to have a final push if we are going to make our MMF (ministry and mission fund) contributions for this year. I am still learning how each Diocese have different ways of attending to this, in my previous parish all payments would be made within ten months so as to try and reduce some of the stress for the treasurers who are also trying to reach years end. If you are able to contribute to this please mark your donation with MMF and each treasurer will know how to allocate your gift.
This weekend the Upper Fal Parishes Ministry teams are taking a ‘Pre-Advent’ quiet day together. We are being led by Revd James Warren and his Wife Jill a licenced minister, who are currently living in Probus but supporting another benefice in transition.
I also celebrated my first-year anniversary last week, which has given me cause to pause and reflect over the year and to think ahead as to what my priorities might be for this coming year. I am sure that you will not be surprised to learn that I would like to grow the ministry teams to include more pastoral assistants, and to grow a schools team. I am sure there will be more ideas in the realm of children, families and young people as I attend the course over the coming year.
In the meantime, please can I ask you to pray:
-
for me in the role as your incumbent, for wisdom and discernment
-
for the process of the pastoral reorganisation as we become one benefice
-
for the ministry and mission of your church, to seek God’s heart as to who we should share the Gospel with, and how we might do that
Gras ha kres,
Caroline

As we look ahead to the readings for this coming Sunday, I invite you to pause, reflect and enter more deeply into the Word. Before the service, take time with the passage and ask the following four questions:
-
What does this passage tell me about God?
-
What does it tell me about human life?
-
If this really is God’s word, what will I do in response to it?
-
Who am I going to tell about what I have learnt from this?

Heavenly Father,
whose blessed Son was revealed
to destroy the works of the devil
and to make us the children of God and heirs of eternal life:
grant that we, having this hope,
may purify ourselves even as he is pure;
that when he shall appear in power and great glory
we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom;
where he is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen

Our midweek home groups are a real blessing to be part of, a place where we share life, faith, and friendship. It’s often the first to hear when someone needs prayer or has good news to share.
We hope these groups will continue to grow and welcome new members as we journey together in faith.
For details about the different midweek home groups you can join, please contact the home group leaders.
Grampound with Creed meets on Thursday evenings (weekly) with William & Ruth Trinnick (various locations)
Probus will be meeting on Tuesday evenings (fortnightly) with Scott and Sue Hall (starts 11th November)
Probus will be meeting Thursday evenings (fortnightly) with Liz and Chris Marshman (starts 13th November)
Tresillian - We are hoping to begin a daytime group in Tresillian, more news to follow, but if you would like to offer your home please let Rev. Caroline know.

TRURO STREET PASTORS
Appeal for Volunteers
Would you consider joining our friendly and supportive ‘church on the street’ in this challenging and vital front-line Christian work in the night time economy of Truro on Saturday nights?
There are opportunities as either a Street Pastor on the streets or as a Prayer Pastor at the base. Each Saturday night a team of 3+ Street Pastors goes out onto the streets to care for people who find themselves in difficulty, or vulnerable for reasons such as alcohol consumption, drugs use, mental health problems, homelessness etc. (commitment is usually one Saturday night per month).
Meanwhile 2 Prayer Pastors hold the fort back at base and take messages from the Street Pastors, recording details of the people they meet and help and praying for all involved in those encounters.
If you would like to find out more please contact

Advent Carol Service
WEDNESDAY 10th DECEMBER 2.30pm
Celebrate Advent with the Mothers' Union at Truro Cathedral. Favourite carols, candles round the crib, and refreshments afterwards. There is no charge for this event.
News from Mothers’ Union in Cornwall
Mothers’ Union in this Diocese supports the Red Chair Campaign, which symbolises our solidarity with all those whose lives are blighted by gender-based violence around the world. A vacant red chair can be seen next to the Mothers’ Union table in Truro Cathedral, a small reminder of all those who have lost their lives. Please see the attached poster, and we hope you might like to do something similar in your church.
The annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence run from 25th November to 10th December. This is a global campaign starting on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and ending on Human Rights Day. This year the campaign focuses on one of the fastest-growing forms of abuse: digital violence against women and girls. It is supported by Mothers’ Union, and runs alongside our own campaigns such as RISE UP.
News from Mothers’ Union nationally
Mothers’ Union is delighted to celebrate the appointment of Dame Sarah Mullally as the new Archbishop of Canterbury. Throughout her ministry, Dame Sarah has been a great supporter of the Mothers' Union.
In a statement, MU Worldwide President, Kathleen Snow, said: “For nearly 150 years, Mothers’ Union has faithfully worked to uphold the value and dignity of every person, especially within family and community life. To now have, for the first time, a female Archbishop as our Patron is a moment of deep encouragement and inspiration for our global movement, the majority of whom are women serving in countless acts of faith and courageous leadership across more than 80 countries.”
In becoming a Mothers’ Union patron, Dame Sarah joins Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Edinburgh, who took up this role in February.
COMING SOON IN 2026 – MOTHERS’ UNION CELEBRATES 150 YEARS!

Generosity and Stewardship Matters
Financially Supporting your church
The Parish Giving Scheme is our preferred method of receiving regular giving within the churches of Probus, Ladock and Grampound. If you haven't already transferred from other forms of giving then do check out how it works through the link here or by contacting your treasurer.
Please do consider whether this is a good time to review your regular giving at the church, or perhaps you would like to plan for a future donation and leave a gift in your will. The Church of England has produced guidance on legacy giving which you can find here
