Upper Fal Parishes Bulletin for Pentecost, Sunday 8th June 2025

Upper Fal Parishes

Weekly Bulletin

Dear Friends,

On Monday we welcomed Bishop David to the Upper Fal Parishes. We were also joined by neighbours from both the Roseland and Truro Mission areas. We held a short service of midday prayer using liturgy from the Community of Aidan and Hilda, a Celtic inspired dispersed monastic community of whom I am a member.

Over a cup of tea Bishop David was able to chat with various people before setting off across the golden valley towards Probus. 24 set off and several dogs, we are thankful to the farmers involved who made it possible to enjoy the walk without worrying their cattle who had previously been grazing in the fields. As we walked Bishop David 'do-si-doed' with walking partners discovering the incredible array of talents, passion, concerns and joys of serving one another across Cornwall and even further afield. From time to time we stopped, shared a story and then prayed for the parishes across Powder deanery, for ourselves, for Cornwall, and for those who are persecuted in their faith.

At Probus we were met by Eleanor and her team as they serve the community by opening the larder, one endearing memory will be of Bishop David singing '3 little ducks' to one of the youngest people around on Monday!. Eleanor also provided much needed refreshments for us all, as walking had become increasingly warmer through the afternoon, for which we were very grateful. As 4.45 our numbers swelled as people came to join us for a shortened service of evening prayer focused very much on thankfulness and creation, very apt as we had walked through fields, along hedges, in valleys and along country lanes.

Of course, there were many wise and insightful comments and prayers as we journeyed together, and in due course you will all have a chance to meet with him and chat with him. Bishop David is keen to come and join us particularly when we are holding evangelistic events, he has a passion for sharing stories of faith, stories of Jesus and for listening to the other.

Please do pray for Bishop David as he spends his first 100 days listening to us, the church and congregations, to the communities, networks and organisations, also to God. You may like to add Bishop David's prayer to your own repertoire:

Gracious and Holy God,
you are our father, our shelter and our strength. in this land of wide waters and ancient faith, may your kingdom come afresh in this Diocese of Truro. Give us grace each day - to walk the pilgrim path with humility.

Lord Jesus Christ,
Shepherd of the flock and servant of all, forgive what is past, renew what is broken, and make us vessels of mercy and peace.

Holy Spirit,
Breath of God and fire of love, dwell in this place and stir up your gifts within us. guide this diocese in truth, bind us together across generations and parishes, and send us out as bearers of hope and healing.

For yours is the kingdom, and the Power, and the glory. Amen

This Sunday all are welcome to the TEAM service to celebrate being together (as the first disciples did!) and Pentecost.

Probus Family Breakfast
On the 1st Sunday of every month we will have breakfast on offer from 8:45 before the connect service. An opportunity to spend time together before worship. We are hoping this may be something we can invite families to and as well as social time, and food it also offers a chance for those unfamiliar with the worship songs to listen to the music group practice and become more familiar with them....... but the band need breakfast too so they won't play the whole time!

🎵Probus Song of the Month🎵
This month it's been chosen by Revd Caroline after she heard it sung at Grampound, and it has occasionally popped up during the Connect services.

Goodness of God was written by some of the well known names in contemporary Christian music who collectively are Bethel Music.

It won a GMA Dove award in 2020, but became more well known a year later when CeCe Winans covered it taking it from a country vibe to a more gospel sound.

Pastoral Care across the Upper Fal Parishes
I would like to start a small prayer net drawing on those who feel that they can pray for and on behalf of others. This is a calling, a spiritual gift. If you are available to pray for someone at any time, would you be prepared to commit to belonging to the prayer net -this will be a small dedicated team of people who will pray for people known and unknown to them, in the comfort of their own home or take a few moments to utter a quick prayer wherever you might be. The success of this group will be when church folk feel able to use the prayer net for prayer cover for emergency situations, or ask the prayer group to pray for friends and neighbours who may need prayer. The other success measure will be that no one in the group will discuss what is being prayed for with anyone else, not even the person being prayed for!
it will be possible to join this group if in the first instance you have a smart phone so that messages can be shared using whatsapp, or email, it is even possible to join only using telephone however, you will most likely just have one call as agreed for the latest requests. It will be my hope that we will also share good news and so receive feedback from the people we have been praying for.
I also expect any person in the church to submit prayer requests having first asked permission to share basic details i.e. first name and nature of prayer request. There would be no need to go into detail as God will know and understand what is needed.
If you are interested please speak to either myself or your church warden or local leader. This will form part of the discernment process.
Grace and peace,
Caroline

Generosity and Stewardship Matters

Financially Supporting your church

The Parish Giving Scheme is our preferred method of receiving regular giving within the churches of Probus, Ladock and Grampound. If you haven't already transferred from other forms of giving then do check out how it works through the link here or by contacting your treasurer.

Please do consider whether this is a good time to review your regular giving at the church, or perhaps you would like to plan for a future donation and leave a gift in your will.  The Church of England has produced guidance on legacy giving  which you can find here
