Message from the Rector
Ow sos ger,
Nadelik Lowen!
Happy Christmas!
We have been waiting, hoping in excited anticipation, almost with bated breath, the coming of our Lord Jesus. Christmas parties have taken place, school concerts and Nativity performances, as well as Christingles, crib services, stories around the Christmas tree, Carol Services as well as impromptu (but highly expected) carols on the cobbles, on the green, in the pub. This is certainly a time of year when we eagerly throw ourselves in and allow ourselves to be swept up in the gaiety and busyness of it all. And I do hope you have had some fun!
I am also mindful that even as some celebrate - a little too early in some cases, that there are those for whom December is difficult. Not only is it dark, wild and often wet, it is also associated with major life changing events that have rocked families. It is as if we need to enter into some form of hibernation as flora and fauna might when they try to hide from the ravages of the season. If at this moment I am speaking to you and this is resonating, please do reach out and speak to a friend, family member or minister from the church, we are here for you. It helps to talk with someone especially over a cup of tea.
As I write it is the shortest day, one thing I like to do on the shortest day is to light a fire - so, I am hoping it will get colder! – and to curl up with a book or with my journal and to write. It is a time for a bit of self-care before the busyness of Christmas Day.
However you might be spending Christmas Day with family, friends or on your own, I do wish you every blessing of love, faith and hope as you contemplate the mysteries of our Lord and as we invite him to come in and abide with us.
Gras ha kres,
Caroline

Heavenly Father,
whose children suffered at the hands of Herod,
though they had done no wrong:
by the suffering of your Son
and by the innocence of our lives
frustrate all evil designs
and establish your reign of justice and peace;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen

Our midweek home groups are a real blessing to be part of, a place where we share life, faith, and friendship. It’s often the first to hear when someone needs prayer or has good news to share.
We hope these groups will continue to grow and welcome new members as we journey together in faith.
For details about the different midweek home groups you can join, please contact the home group leaders.
Grampound with Creed meets on Thursday evenings (weekly) with William & Ruth Trinnick (various locations)
Probus meets on Tuesday evenings (fortnightly) with Scott and Sue Hall
Probus will be meeting Thursday evenings (fortnightly) with Liz and Chris Marshman. Please contact Liz on 07525 456434.
Tresillian - We are hoping to begin a daytime group in Tresillian, more news to follow, but if you would like to offer your home please let Rev. Caroline know.

Knitted Nativity Set Requests
Dear Friends,
This may seem a little early to be asking, but might you know of a knitted nativity set that might need rehoming after Christmas?
It would be really good to have a set for each church, but particularly at Probus, that can be used with the children (or at any of the other crib services that take place across the Upper Fal Parishes).
Many thanks for your help,
Caroline

Generosity and Stewardship Matters
Financially Supporting your church
The Parish Giving Scheme is our preferred method of receiving regular giving within the churches of Probus, Ladock and Grampound. If you haven't already transferred from other forms of giving then do check out how it works through the link here or by contacting your treasurer.
Please do consider whether this is a good time to review your regular giving at the church, or perhaps you would like to plan for a future donation and leave a gift in your will. The Church of England has produced guidance on legacy giving which you can find here

Newsletter Submissions
There will be no Benefice Bulletin for Sunday 4th January.
Please send your items by 5pm on Tuesday 6th January at the latest to Matthew at bulletin@probus.church and make sure the subject line clearly indicates that it is a newsletter submission.
Thank you.
