Message from the Rector
Ow sos ger,
Over the past week or so, I have had several conversations with people across the Upper Fal Parishes. In the main it has been a very encouraging week as people have expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the ministry they have received from their local church, and from the ministry team. As I listen to or read such correspondence I also have a little voice in my ear echoing the doubts and criticisms that are expressed when members of the church or village do not know or understand what the clergy team do from day to day nor how the concept of a ministry team might enhance the ministry and mission of the church.
Jesus' commandment to us is to “go and make disciples”; it was not “build up your local church”. As we read Acts and the Epistles we discover how the church grew, it grew by the power of God’s Holy Spirit, it grew by the disciples -the followers of the Way -the little Christs reaching out to their communities and networks and talking about the way in which their faith in Jesus inspires them to lead to a lifestyle pursuing holiness. Different churches express this in a variety of ways for example by using salvation language; different era’s expressed this differently for example by using eschatological language i.e. using fear of hell as a motivator to want to go to heaven.
Each generation has to understand and interpret the Gospel according to their time, sometimes we struggle to do this as the language in the bible can appear formal, rigid, militant, soppy, some people struggle with the different styles of writing, some people struggle with the way in which people of a different time approached their enemies.
There are several ways in which to read the bible, the first is as a devotional practice, we read because we want to discover more of God, we desire /thirst/ hunger for God’s word and we glorify God by praying through the gift we have been granted i.e. insight, knowledge, wisdom, love etc; another is that we read the bible in community and like Jacob by the river we wrestle with God, as we learn to listen to one another, consider different points of view and experience God through the lens of another, yet another way - still in community- is that we listen to God's word Sunday by Sunday as we are taken on a journey through the year and we receive the word through a preacher who has studied, considered and prayed through the passages to bring us a word of encouragement, rebuke, challenge, vision, love, teaching, wisdom or insight
So, let me encourage you in the words of Paul and Timothy (1 Thess 5:11 (NIV)
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
Gras ha kres,
Caroline

Collect for Sunday
God our creator,
who in the beginning
commanded the light to shine out of darkness:
we pray that the light of the glorious gospel of Christ
may dispel the darkness of ignorance and unbelief,
shine into the hearts of all your people,
and reveal the knowledge of your glory
in the face of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen

Our midweek home groups are a real blessing to be part of, a place where we share life, faith, and friendship. It’s often the first to hear when someone needs prayer or has good news to share.
We hope these groups will continue to grow and welcome new members as we journey together in faith.
For details about the different midweek home groups you can join, please contact the home group leaders.
Grampound with Creed meets on Thursday evenings (weekly) with William & Ruth Trinnick (various locations)

Probus “Round the Table” The Big Church Lunch
Dear All,
It has come to my attention that it was not clear that people are required to book their place for this event so that caterers know how much food to make! You are also required to alert us for any dietary needs. Please contact Ann Holland either in person or by email to book your place pcc.secretary@probus.church

Generosity and Stewardship Matters
Financially Supporting your church
The Parish Giving Scheme is our preferred method of receiving regular giving within the churches of Probus, Ladock and Grampound. If you haven't already transferred from other forms of giving then do check out how it works through the link here or by contacting your treasurer.
Please do consider whether this is a good time to review your regular giving at the church, or perhaps you would like to plan for a future donation and leave a gift in your will. The Church of England has produced guidance on legacy giving which you can find here

Your Benefice Bulletin needs you!
Our weekly Benefice Bulletin is a vital way we share news, services, and events across our churches and we’re looking for someone who would be willing to take on publishing it each week.
The role involves preparing and sending the bulletin email using Mailchimp, so confidence with computers and basic software is essential. That said, full start-up support and guidance will be provided, so you won’t be thrown in at the deep end!
If you enjoy working with emails, like things to be clear and well-presented, and would like to offer a valuable service to the benefice, we’d love to hear from you.
If you’re interested, or would like to know more before deciding, please get in touch via bulletin@probus.church. Matthew Hodge
