Message from the Rector

Ow sos ger,

Every good gift comes from above (James 1:17)

We should use our unique gifts to serve one another (1 Peter 4:10)

And that generosity brings joy (2 Corinthians 9:7)

Having completed all the annual meetings, it is time for us to consider how we serve the church. We do this in myriad ways from cleaning the brass, sweeping the porch, serving the coffee, leading the congregation in prayer to leading services as well as various roles that take us out into the community such as pastoral ministers, church school opportunities through open the book etc.It is my belief that God our Father in heaven equips each church within the Upper Fall Parishes with the people it needs in order to fulfil it's calling to make disciples. That means we all have a part to play in helping the church to function as a church. All that we do, all that we give (time, energy, monies) goes to serve the Church to enable the Church to be church. Church is experienced in the local (with a little 'c') but we must not forget that we are part of the worldwide family of Christians who meet together in local places called church and collectively we are the Church. It is the family of God meeting together to praise and worship and as such we are family, we care for another and we serve one another. We do this in a variety of ways: getting involved with our local churches and offering to volunteer in a particular role or to take on a particular task. From the profile that was designed during the vacancy the strapline was "Knowing God better and making God better known" I think it is time to update this to "Making God known: living as a community of Faith."

At each of our churches we are hoping to build up the ministry teams. Some teams will be based at a particular church such as the Local Ministry team -this will include people who feel that God is asking them to take on a role such as a worship leader, pastoral minister or local church leader, some will feel that they are being called to contribute within a certain area such as reading the lesson or leading intercessions. God equips the church to fulfil all these roles. We are assured of this in various passages such as 1 Cor 12:4-6 and Romans 12:6-8.

As such I want to encourage you to pray for God to reveal how you can serve the church -His Church, and to come and have a conversation with me. I would love to hear how you feel God is leading you at this time. Of course, I will support anyone wanting to explore how God is leading them, we do this by praying together, talking together through a process of discernment, and then if it seems the right thing we safely recruit people into roles and provide training to support them in those roles. There is some training that is possible to begin which heklps to support the discernment process, almost testing the waters to see if this is right for you.

Two opportunities coming up:

1. INTERCESSIONS

We are holding a workshop to explore leading the church in prayer through intercessions. This is suitable to those already on the intercessions team and those wanting to explore if this is something they feel called to. Lydia remick will be leading this form the Diocese, Sat 23rd 10-12 at St Nun's Church, Grampound. Please let me know if you'd like to come, just to make sure we have enough copies of resources etc.

2. PASTORAL MINISTRY

Sarah Welpy also from the Diocese will be running a course on Pastoral ministry beginning in June, if you would like to explore if pastoral ministry, please do get in touch.

Schools and Church Team - I will shortly be calling a meeting of those interested in this work so that we can start planning for the new school year. If you are interested, please get in touch.

Thine Kingdom Come - God With Us - 14th-24th May

This year’s Thy Kingdom Come focuses on the presence of God through His Spirit.

God is with us in everyday life—in both the joys and the sorrows—and through His Spirit, He seeks to reveal Himself to those who do not yet know Him.

Over the 11 days, we will explore a different Bible story each day—from Ruth and Gideon to Elijah and the early church waiting for the promised Holy Spirit—each one showing God’s presence, power, and love at work in people and places.

As we pray for our five people, our hope is that they too will experience the life-changing love of God and choose to follow Him.

Rev Caroline will also be holding a Compline service each evening at 7.30pm at various locations throughout the period.

Leading Intercessionary Prayers in Church

Saturday 23rd May, 10.00am - 12.00pm at St Nun’s

This will be our second workshop in leading intercessions with Lydia Remick. The first workshop was a great success and so we hope to build on this by exploring different ways to lead the intercessions i.e. how to use the Psalms or hymns within the prayers to form a structure...

This is suitable for everyone involved in leading intercessions -no matter the particular tradition, and is suitable for newcomers exploring if this might be what God is calling them to!
