Ladock News July 2026

Dear Friends and Neighbours,

We are now in Glorious Summer and I am reminded of something said to me when I first moved back to Cornwall –“enjoy the liquid sunshine!”

My memories of being a child and young adult in Cornwall are of blue summer skies, skylarks singing around me, spending time at beaches and coves and reading in between phases of swimming in the sea. I very much enjoyed growing up in Cornwall, and then returning year upon year to visit our relations and to walk the Coastal footpath. It has only taken us 24 years but we finally completed the Cornish section. We finished in May at Polperro and celebrated by having lunch at the Three Pilchards.

We often talk about creating memories, there is a great need for us to slow down and enjoy precious moments whether they are when we are with others or when we are alone. Our tendency is to over work without taking time to enjoy.

This past week I have had the joy of visiting some of our local schools, one such visit also included Bishop David of Truro Diocese, he told me of the wonderful presentation he had just witnessed as the head teacher shared the Godly Play version of the story of creation with the children. The gift of the creation story is that at the end of all the busyness God took a day to rest and to enjoy all that had been made. We all need to take time to rest, to enjoy the fruit of our labour.

Each of us need to take time, to slow down, to develop a sense of peace and contentment, to know that all will be well, but this is not something we just do -it takes practice! And that might sound really odd!

It may also sound a bit self-indulgent -I sincerely hope not! Human-beings are incredibly complicated. We need one another, and we need space or time alone. We need periods of activity and we need periods of rest. One ancient poet wrote: There is a time for everything,
 and a season for every activity under the heavens….

He then went on to say;

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; (Ecclesiastes 3:1,2,11 NIV)

I know there is another ancient proverb that goes “make hay whilst the sun shines”. Both work and rest are vitally important. This summer season whatever you might be doing may you be richly blessed as you take time to both do and to be.

Grace and peace,

Caroline

Flower Festival – Cornwall Past and Present, 23- 25 May

What a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend. Ladock Church looked resplendent decorated with fabulous flower arrangements depicting our lovely county. Acappella Sound’s concert on the Saturday evening was brilliant and much enjoyed by One and All, as were Peter and Roger’s Saturday and Sunday afternoon organ recitals, the Monday afternoon Bell Ringers’ record-breaking full peal and the delicious refreshments. A huge thank you to Shirley and her team for their great organisation and hard work. An amazing £1,000 was raised for church funds.
