Ladock News, February 2026
Dear Friends and Neighbours,It is a peculiarity of the Christian calendar that no sooner have we celebrated Christmas-Christ being born among us - that we are racing ahead to the events that lead to his crucifixion, death and resurrection. We do have a few weeks during which we do a deep dive into how Jesus’ ministry began and along with those first disciples we remember our excitement when we first started following Jesus. Jesus’ ministry exercised through love, teaches us that there is another way to live our lives and that ultimately this way leads us to God our heavenly Father and great peace within our souls.I do not know what world events will take place over the next few weeks, to some it will seem like ignorance or denial, perhaps even weakness, but to me it is important that we continue working towards the good of all and the good of our community. That we work together and be the good news to one another sharing a deep sense of humanity between us.Based at St Probus and St Grace Church we shall be offering a short course on the Be-attitudes (a play on the word beatitudes), these are the teachings of Jesus that help us to develop a positive mental attitude towards the whole of life including one another. All are welcome to join in to ask questions, to discover what Christians think about the difficulties of today and how we respond to the needs of the world that is somewhat out of kilter than the garden of Eden first imagined by God. Jesus gave us some hard teaching so come and join us as we seek to unpack what he meant.Lent this year begins with Ash Wednesday on Wednesday 18thFeb, we will hold a service during which the imposition of ashes will take place (St Ladoca Church at 11am or Ss Probus and Grace at 7pm)-we are marked with the sign of the cross on our foreheads to represent our sorrow for our own waywardness and desire to live a more holy life. The course on 'the be-attitudes' will take part each following Wednesday beginning at 7pm until Easter. No need to book just come along! Refreshments will be available.

Christmas Services
We would like to express our thanks to all who visited the Church over the Christmas period, whether to attend a service, look at the beautifully decorated trees or simply to seek refuge from the frenetic pre-Christmas festivities. We are especially grateful to everyone who contributed to the Tree Festival in any way and to all who came to what turned out to the best-attended carol service for some years. As always, we are indebted to the volunteers and Church members who worked so hard behind the scenes to make sure that everything ran smoothly. As a result of all this hard work and generosity we were able to send £950 to St Petroc’s Society at the end of December.
Coffee Mornings in the Hall
The first coffee morning of 2026 will take place in the Hall on 14 February between 10.00 and 12.00. It is of course Valentine’s Day as well!
