What's On

What's On in April, May, June, July, August, September 2020?

A Message from the Rector

April brings us all the delights of spring with lengthening days and nature waking up. April also brings with it Easter, when the Church remembers the death and resurrection of Jesus.

This year our celebrations are already overshadowed by the onset of the Coronavirus and the restrictions imposed to restrict its spread. The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have instructed that all public services with the exceptions of weddings and funerals should be suspended ‘for a season’. All ringing of church bells is to be suspended also. But of course all clergy will continue with their pattern of daily prayer and Ladock Church will remain open for private prayer and contemplation.

As the Archbishops have said, ‘Being a part of the Church of England is going to look very different in the days ahead. Our life is going to be less characterised by attendance at church on Sunday, and more characterised by the prayer and service we offer each day. We may not be able to pray with people in the ways that we are used to, but we can certainly pray for people. And we can certainly offer practical care and support….Then by our service, and by our love, Jesus Christ will be made known, and the hope of the gospel – a hope that will counter fear and isolation - will spread across our land.’

Meanwhile, I ask that we all seek to be as vigilant as possible at this time and encourage you all to pray with each other (over the phone etc). As we are all restricted to staying in our houses, we must think of how we can support and care for those in need across our community. If anyone requires help as the crisis evolves, please contact either Joe Sharp, Churchwarden, on 07816 317180 or Shirley Soper on 01726 882697 in the first instance.

We will try to keep all members of the congregation informed of the latest developments. Our website, www.ladockchurch.org.uk will have all the latest advice and details of further online services.

In spite of everything, I wish you all a very happy Easter.

Reverend Joachim Foot
