Message from the Rector
Ow sos ger,
What a busy week last week! As you know I went away to Bristol last Sunday for a 48 hour residential course with the focus on the inclusion and discipleship of children, youth and their families. Bishop David also attended, such is his belief that children and youth need to be included in the vision and mission of the local church. It is the hope that every village and town will provided spaces for the different generations to explore and come to faith, that our churches will become more intergenerational, that our churches will acknowledge and lament over the missing generations, and that together we will seek to become communities that are Christ centred and outward focused. Growing Younger is the vision that attracted Bishop David to become the Bishop of Truro. Bishop David exhibits a passion and warmth for people of all generations and is a model for all of us, very much as Jesus did and is for us. Each of us, in our own way, must discover how we might do this, how we as a church might be able to open our doors and practice hospitality, this might look like serving refreshments after the schools carol service, it might mean offering to go into school and become a trusted adult for children to read to, or help out with a gardening club. Each church will have a different possibility open to them, each of us will carry a particular concern, might I invite you to gather together and talk about these things and to pray for the Lord to show you what he is calling you to, and then to have a go! We have to be prepared to try a few things and have a go to see if it captures the imagination of others or not, there is no harm in trying. Please do remember to discuss all this with your local parish safeguarding officer and church wardens so that any documentation or preparation can be completed in a timely manner.
Saturday then saw me at the Diocesan Synod, this was my first meeting as I have joined part way through the Triennium. The morning was inspiring, we had talks from Claire Green from Creation Care who spoke passionately about sharing the Gospel with school children that are not necessarily in church schools, we were presented with a tricky situation to discuss through the lens of safeguarding and the PCC's cares and responsibilities. We also had a presentation on the budget for 2026, with discussion around limited resources in terms of stipend clergy, housing costs, Net Zero ambitions, Glebe management and several other less costly expenses. There was a robust question and answer session as well as a call to Romans 13:1-7 from someone else who was also at the Synod for their first time. Bishop Hugh gave an incredible presidential address, which can be found here https://trurodiocese.org.uk/bishops-blog/bishop-hughs-last-diocesan-synod-presidential-address/ Needless to say, Bishop Hugh received a standing ovation. I also owe my great thanks to Bishop Hugh as he stepped in and took a service of baptism for me last week as I had underestimated how long it takes to get to Bristol from Probus! Bishop Hugh was gracious and generous with his time, I am sure you all know that this is his nature.
As you go into this week, may you experience God's love and presence in all that you do and in all that you are.
gras ha kres,
Caroline

As we look ahead to the readings for this coming Sunday, I invite you to pause, reflect and enter more deeply into the Word. Before the service, take time with the passage and ask the following four questions:
-
What does this passage tell me about God?
-
What does it tell me about human life?
-
If this really is God’s word, what will I do in response to it?
-
Who am I going to tell about what I have learnt from this?

Almighty God,
give us grace to cast away the works of darkness
and to put on the armour of light,
now in the time of this mortal life,
in which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility;
that on the last day,
when he shall come again in his glorious majesty
to judge the living and the dead,
we may rise to the life immortal;
through him who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen

Our midweek home groups are a real blessing to be part of, a place where we share life, faith, and friendship. It’s often the first to hear when someone needs prayer or has good news to share.
We hope these groups will continue to grow and welcome new members as we journey together in faith.
For details about the different midweek home groups you can join, please contact the home group leaders.
Grampound with Creed meets on Thursday evenings (weekly) with William & Ruth Trinnick (various locations)
Probus will be meeting on Tuesday evenings (fortnightly) with Scott and Sue Hall
Probus will be meeting Thursday evenings (fortnightly) with Liz and Chris Marshman. Please contact Liz on 07525 456434.
Tresillian - We are hoping to begin a daytime group in Tresillian, more news to follow, but if you would like to offer your home please let Rev. Caroline know.

The anxiety in your soul will not be settled by anything you can buy in the shops.
The soul cannot be healed by what can be bought, only by the love that cannot be sold.
Advent is not a countdown to Christmas but a confrontation with reality. It doesn't begin with twinkling lights. Advent begins in the dark.
Come to our Advent Kosoleth service at Probus Church - a quiet service of reflection. It is a time to take a breath, permission to have a moment of calm. A time for stillness and to just be present in the presence of God.

Mother’s Union Advent Carol Service
WEDNESDAY 10th DECEMBER 2.30pm
Celebrate Advent with the Mothers' Union at Truro Cathedral. Favourite carols, candles round the crib, and refreshments afterwards. There is no charge for this event.
News from Mothers’ Union in Cornwall
Mothers’ Union in this Diocese supports the Red Chair Campaign, which symbolises our solidarity with all those whose lives are blighted by gender-based violence around the world. A vacant red chair can be seen next to the Mothers’ Union table in Truro Cathedral, a small reminder of all those who have lost their lives. Please see the attached poster, and we hope you might like to do something similar in your church.
The annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence run from 25th November to 10th December. This is a global campaign starting on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and ending on Human Rights Day. This year the campaign focuses on one of the fastest-growing forms of abuse: digital violence against women and girls. It is supported by Mothers’ Union, and runs alongside our own campaigns such as RISE UP.
News from Mothers’ Union nationally
Mothers’ Union is delighted to celebrate the appointment of Dame Sarah Mullally as the new Archbishop of Canterbury. Throughout her ministry, Dame Sarah has been a great supporter of the Mothers' Union.
In a statement, MU Worldwide President, Kathleen Snow, said: “For nearly 150 years, Mothers’ Union has faithfully worked to uphold the value and dignity of every person, especially within family and community life. To now have, for the first time, a female Archbishop as our Patron is a moment of deep encouragement and inspiration for our global movement, the majority of whom are women serving in countless acts of faith and courageous leadership across more than 80 countries.”
In becoming a Mothers’ Union patron, Dame Sarah joins Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Edinburgh, who took up this role in February.
COMING SOON IN 2026 – MOTHERS’ UNION CELEBRATES 150 YEARS!
