Ladock News June 2022 - Messages from our Team Rector and Churchwarden

A Message for the Jubilee from our Rector

Queen Elizabeth has served our country for an unbelievable 70 years. Her dedication to our country has been truly remarkable. It is a life that has also been dedicated to serving God. Her faith is well known. Indeed in 1952 in her first Christmas broadcast she made a prayer request to the nation: 'Pray for me … that God may give me wisdom and strength to carry out the solemn promises I shall be making, and that I may faithfully serve Him and you, all the days of my life.' 70 years on, churches up and down the country are continuing to pray for her and her unique relationship with the Church of England.

It is the Queen's faith that has supported her throughout her reign. Indeed the theme of her coronation and her entire reign has been one of 'service.’ The Queen most often refers to the story of the Good Samaritan as an example of the service she seeks to offer to our nation: the story of the man who came across a stranger who had been beaten up on the road. The Good Samaritan binds up the stranger's wounds and takes him to the nearest inn, and pays for his care. In 1985 the Queen said this of the Good Samaritan: it ‘reminds us of our duty to our neighbour. We should try to follow Christ's clear instruction at the end of that story: "Go and do thou likewise". The Queen's life of service to the nation is one that is characterised by her faith. We would all do well to learn from her example.

With every blessing,

Reverend Joachim Foot
