Ladock News, July 2024

A word from the Curate

We live in a world that is rapidly changing and with a pace of change that is accelerating such that it can seem exhausting sometimes just trying to keep up and nigh impossible to plan for the future. As I write this, I realise that by the time you read it many things may have changed and what I have to say now will hardly be news. I still don’t know at this moment when or where I’ll be heading in the next few months; we are interviewing for a new Rector imminently but at the moment we don’t know who it will be and when they might start. This modern world that can seem like a rollercoaster ride of change and uncertainty may be a source of anxiety for many but I am trying to find some peace amongst the turmoil. A peace that comes from an unchanging God who sees the entirety of time from beginning to end and has no need of panic. Our God is the same yesterday, today and forever and has all things in His hands. If we can just trust Him so we can know that, whatever the future holds, He’s got us, then we can find an oasis of calm amongst the raging storms. We can cast all our cares on Him knowing that He cares for us and we can plan for an uncertain future knowing that it is not unknown to Him.

Paul Salaman

Ladock Church Fete 15 June

The indifferent weather forecast for the Fete weekend meant that there was no option but to relocate the first full Church Fete since 2019 from its new location at Oxturn House to the Community Hall. Inevitably on the day itself, the weather improved and thus it was possible to retain nearly all the stalls and attractions. The new location appeared not to affect the attendance and it was good to greet many regulars once again as well as a number of new faces. Kate Holborow DL kindly agreed to open the proceedings, drawing attention to the sense of community that characterises the village.

The afternoon produced nearly £3,800 for Church funds, a tremendous result, for which the Church and PCC are very grateful. We are immensely grateful to: the organiser Carey and her entire support team; Kate for her support; all the stall holders, young and old; Barbara for offering to host the Fete in her garden; our sponsors, Raymond James in Truro, S J Grigg and Philip Martin. Finally, thank you to everyone who came or who bought draw tickets.

Congratulations to the winners of the Draw: first prize B Holt; second prize J Murray; third prize L Warring.

Coffee Mornings in the Hall

The next coffee morning of 2024 will take place on Saturday 6 July.  Coffee, cake and Chat at Ladock Community Hall 10-12. A time when we can all get together. Offers of help, cooking, hosting and furniture moving are always most welcome. Please note that there will be no coffee morning in August.
