July Ladock News Church message

Ladock News July 2020

Psalm 26:6 ‘I wash my hands, LORD, to show my innocence, and I worship at your altar’

It gives me real pleasure to announce that the church building is now re-open to the public for private prayer and reflection. Please do feel free to come in and sit quietly in our Church building. I ask that you all follow any signs and directions placed out and conform to the guidelines set by the Government on social distancing etc. Services, for the moment, still cannot take place, but I remain hopeful that we will be able to welcome people into the church for worship in the near future.

This is an evolving situation and the guidelines are changing regularly, please do refer to the website for the most up-to-date guidelines and look out for signs on the Church doors explaining procedures.

I know that the pandemic and the lockdown has been hard on many of you, we as a Church are here to support anyone in the community in need, we are only a phone call or email away. Thank you once again to everyone who has been putting in such a huge amount of effort to keep our community going at this time, and for all those small acts of kindness and generosity that I see happening all around the village. I continue to pray for you all and look forward to the day we can meet again without fear of disease.

We continue to have virtual services every Sunday. I am now able to record them inside churches and I am taking the opportunity to do so for each of the parishes in the Team in turn. The full order of service, prayers, suggested hymns and a sermon are available on the website for anyone and everyone to read and follow in their own time and wherever they happen to be. We have just started to hold services on Zoom every Sunday. They are open to all and if you would like to receive an invitation please contact me or one of the people listed below.

Ethel Broad

The entire Church and village community was sad to learn of Ethel Broad’s death at her care home in St Austell. Ethel was born and raised in Ladock, returning here after a teaching career elsewhere in the county. She was a great supporter of the Church at all its activities and events, running her popular puzzles and games stall at the Fete for many years.  She also found time to work for the Royal British Legion, becoming the Women’s President for Cornwall. She was a member of the Ladock Old Cornwall Society and she formed Ladock Riverside Club.  St Pirans Day would always see Ethel dressed in her Cornish tartan taking part in the celebrations. She was so proud of her Cornish heritage and 'her' Ladock. She will be missed by all her friends in the village and further afield; we send our condolences to all her family.

Ladock Churchyard

The paths in the churchyard have been resurfaced. Access to the graves is now much easier and dryer underfoot. We are most grateful for the help of the Parish Council with sharing the cost of the work.

Future Events – Johnny Cowling Concert 22 July

Sadly the lockdown restrictions have not been eased sufficiently to enable the Johnny Cowling concert scheduled for 22 July to go ahead. We are hoping to be able to announce a new date for later in the year or early in 2021 but meanwhile we will be contacting everyone who has bought tickets so far to arrange refunds.
