Congratulations to Shirley!

Shirley Soper – Unsung Hero

I am so pleased to be able to announce that Shirley has been awarded the High Sheriff’s Unsung Heroes Award for all her work on behalf of the church and the wider community during the lockdowns. It is richly deserved and I know that everyone will be delighted that she has received official recognition for her tireless efforts on our behalf. Many congratulations!

The citation reads: ‘In spite of struggling with health problems of her own, she worked to send handmade cards to vulnerable, shielding, isolated and self-isolating members of the community, following up messages with phone calls and arranging for further contact with clergy where necessary. These contacts were the only link with the outside world for many: the letters of thanks and appreciation have shown how essential they were in those difficult times.’

It is hoped that Kate Holborow, our High Sheriff, will be able to present Shirley with the Award on Mothering Sunday, 14th March.  Hopefully we will be able to get together in larger numbers by then and make it a memorable occasion.
