Reverend Joachim Foot

My family and I are very pleased to be moving into Probus. I look forward to involving myself in community life and getting to know lots of new people.

My name is Joachim (pronounced: jo-uh-kim). In church tradition, Joachim was Jesus’ grandfather, married to Anna and their feast day falls on 26th July.

I grew up in Redruth and went to school in Truro before embarking upon my ‘exile’ from the county. I moved to Durham for university where I studied Theology. Rather than following a standard route from university into a graduate job, I instead went to work with people with learning disabilities in a L’Arche community in South London where I met my, now, wife. During this time, I also studied for an M.A. in Biblical Studies at Kings College London.

I then moved to Chislehurst in Kent to work as a House Master in a boarding school. I was accepted for ordination training (vicar training) in 2013 and moved to Cambridge to train at Westcott House for two years. I was ordained in 2015 in Truro Cathedral and served my curacy in Looe.

My calling to priesthood was many years in the making, starting at the age of thirteen when an army chaplain suggested that I mull over the idea. As I look back over my life I see that the Lord was with me every step of the way, through the good and the bad. I am here today because of his faithfulness to me, and I thank the Lord for all that he has done in my life.

My wife and I are blessed with two small, very lively, children who keep us firmly rooted in the realities of life. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, reading and gardening. We are a bilingual family speaking Romanian and English at home, or as we like to call it: speaking ‘Romanglish’. We have also started learning Spanish together. We are a beach mad family, and will head to the seaside at the first hint of sunshine.

I hope and pray that life in Probus will be a blessing to all of us, as the church seeks to serve the local community and to grow God’s kingdom in this place.

All the best,
