November 2018 Newsletter from Reverend Joachim Foot

November marks a season of remembering. In the Church this begins with All Saints Day on 1st November where we remember the Holy men and women from church history. This is followed by All Souls Day on 2nd November when the Church remembers those who have died, and it is a good time to remember ones relatives and visit their graves. Then we move on to a more light-hearted remembering ‘Remember, Remember the 5th November’ – where we remember the Gunpowder Plot, set off fireworks and, in some places, burn effigies of Guy Fawkes.  Then on 11th November we, as a nation will be marking the 100th anniversary of the Armistice that brought to a close the ‘war to end all wars’. The period from All Saints Day until the Feast of Christ the King t is sometimes referred to as ‘Kingdom Season’ in the church. You will see the priest wearing red to mark the season. Kingdom season is a reminder to us that during this time of remembrance that Jesus is our Alpha and Omega, our First and our Last, our King, sovereign over life and death.

With Every Blessing,
