NEWS from LADOCK CHURCH for October, 2017

I recently visited the RHS Garden at Wisley, and was impressed by the new Mediterranean Garden they have just opened.  Chatting to one of the gardeners, I asked how people had reacted to this innovation. “Oh, you know, people don’t really like change.”  We laughed, as we agreed that gardens are always changing, and rarely stand still!

Well, changes creep across even the Church of England – some we like, and some we don’t!  As you probably know, our Team Rector will be changing in due course, as Revd Canon Andrew retires, and it will be hard to say goodbye.  But we will have to do that very shortly – details below.  Personally, I am very grateful for the welcome I received from Andrew & Jane, and for ‘picking Andrew’s brains’ on many occasions.  Meanwhile, here are some of Andrew’s own goodbyes, and invitations to all:

Dear Friends

People ask me if I have plans when I retire. Well the answer is Jane and I plan to enjoy living in Carlyon Bay and Cornwall, visiting grandchildren in Wigan and having them to stay. Walking my Labrador, Cassie, will be my daily exercise (I will be seen around Carylon Bay with my Nordic walking poles and dog!!!).

After a good rest no doubt I will take Sunday services when asked.  I will also be continuing as Diocesan Rural Officer.

The other question I get asked is what will I miss. The answer must be I am sure I will miss being a parish priest after over 31 years, but I know the time is right to pass on to the next generation.

Your friend and Rector Andrew

Andrew’s Farewell Service: 10am Sunday 29 October (in Probus Church)

Andrew and Jane’s Retirement Do:  6.30pm Tuesday November 7th (in Probus Church)

Saturday, 7th October, 10-12, Coffee Morning in Church, with Bring & Buy for British Red Cross Grenfell Tower Appeal; Gift Aid available – see details elsewhere

Tuesday, 3rd October, ‘Grave Talk’, 2.00-4.00 p.m.  A very informal afternoon sharing how we walk the journey of bereavement, and looking ahead to the end of our own journey on this earth.

An opportunity to listen and discuss issues (that we often fear to raise) in a safe place.  It would always be our aim to help people come to a good and peaceful end, as well as to care for those we leave behind.
